New on our roster – Ata Kak!

Ata Kak, the Ghanaian pop enigma, by many considered to be a true legend, is joining our EU/UK roster! You may (or may not) know the story about his iconic album ‘Obaa Sima‘, which he self-released in 1994, largely unnoticed.

Fast forward to 2002: American musicologist Brian Shimkovitz stumbled upon a cassette copy on the streets of Cape Coast, Ghana. That discovery became the spark for his now-renowned blog/label, Awesome Tapes From Africa, where he shared the album in 2006. Interest in Ata Kak’s infectious sound began to grow in the West, prompting Brian to launch a years-long search for the mysterious artist.

In 2014, Shimkovitz finally tracked him down and Ata Kak was astonished to learn that his music had found a cult following abroad. The album was officially reissued in March 2015 via Awesome Tapes From Africa, earning widespread acclaim, sparking a global rediscovery of Ata Kak.

Keep your eyes peeled for tour announcements coming soon! More info here.

Welcome to our EU/UK roster – Dana Gavanski!

Dana Gavanski - © Jack Tennant

Excited to share that we’re now 𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗔 𝗚𝗔𝗩𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗞𝗜‘s EU/UK agent!

Born in Vancouver, to a Serbian family, but relocating to Montreal to attend university, Dana Gavanski originally planned to pursue a career in film. However, following a chance encounter with a guitar left in her apartment by an ex boyfriend, Dana’s attention turned to music. In 2019, Dana signed with Full Time Hobby and released her debut-album “Yesterday Is Gone” in March 2020, where it received critical acclaim and (further) support from BBC 6 Music. “Late Slap”, released in April 2024, is Dana’s third album and deals with themes of the tension between cynicism and despair, and openness and trust. A record where Dana found her true sound.
