Vier jaar nadat de singles van ‘FOREVER’ het tot op KEXP schopten, is TEEN CREEPS terug met het derde album ‘TODAY IS THE DAY’. Daarop verteert zanger Bert Vliegen een relatiebreuk en leert hij opnieuw gelukkig zijn. “Hoe moeilijk het soms ook is, je geraakt uiteindelijk wel aan de andere kant van de tunnel. Dat is de boodschap van ‘TODAY IS THE DAY’”, zegt hij. 

Muzikaal blaakt de band van zelfvertrouwen. TEEN CREEPS verweeft invloeden uit de nineties vakkundig tot een moderne indierocksound. Op de anthemic single ‘ANYWHERE’ klinkt evenveel echo’s van JAPANDROIDS door als van DINOSAUR JR. Het ingetogen ‘AUTOMATICALLY’ solliciteert dan weer naar airplay op Duyster. “Invloeden uit de nineties maken deel uit van ons DNA. We zijn geen retro band, maar willen wel de fakkel overnemen van onze helden. Of toch zeker het vuur laten branden”, zegt Joram De Bock (gitaar).

Four years after the singles from ‘FOREVER’ made it onto KEXP, Belgian indie rockers TEEN CREEPS return with a new album. On ‘TODAY IS THE DAY’, singer Bert Vliegen processes a breakup and learns to be happy again. “No matter how hard it gets, there’s always light at the other side of the tunnel. That’s the message of the record” he says.

Musically, the band radiates confidence. TEEN CREEPS expertly weaves ’90s influences into a modern indie rock sound. On the anthemic single ‘ANYWHERE’, you can hear as many traces of JAPANDROIDS as DINOSAUR JR. At the same time, the atmospheric ‘WINDOWS OPEN’ and the restrained ‘AUTOMATICALLY’ explore new terrain for the band. “Our heroes are and will always be the indie rock bands from the 1990s. But we are not a retro band. We merely want to carry the torch of this genre, or at least keep the fire burning,” says Joram De Bock (guitar).
