Elias Devoldere is more than just one of the most dynamic drummers on the Belgian scene. In recent years he has also shown himself as a songwriter, composer and singer. With the release of his solo debut album Bloomed > Exploded (2023) we can also add producer to that list.
We got to know Elias as a drummer with Nordmann, Robbing Millions, SUWI, Hypochristmutreefuzz and Peenoise, among many others. Following an ep Kaiku (2021), Bloomed > Exploded is his debut full length as a solo artist. An intimate coming-of-age album of intangible atmospherics, crisp melodies, and understated rhythmical patterns that received warm praise from the Belgian press ‘Pure’, that’s how Bruno Ellingham, the UK engineer who mixed the album, described it. Much to the delight of Elias, who reached out to Ellingham because of his previous work with bands such as Massive Attack and Portishead.
Now following the success of his debut album, Elias is back with a bold new hybrid project titled The End. Pushing creative boundaries, he collaborated with fashion designer Dorien De Kesel and filmmakers Pol De Plecker and Wannes Vanspauwen to create a visual and musical piece of work, blending fashion, storytelling and songwriting.
Though The End stands alone as a striking multimedia project, it also hints at what’s to come. It may serve as a blueprint for Elias’ next album, with work slated to begin during a three-month residency in Paris in April 2025. Elias’ sonic landscape is an artful fusion of oblique electronics, beat-driven art pop, melancholic alternative rock, and club-inspired rhythms, crafting an experience that is both dark and hopeful. Fans can look forward to this evolving artistic vision as Elias continues to explore new creative horizons. His new album is expected to arrive in 2026.
