Audrey formed in 2002 and started performing gigs in April of the same year. Having recorded a demo in the studio of an artist’s collective in Gothenburg in the summer of 2003, the positive responses were immediate. During the summer and autumn they played more shows, selling over 500 demos in the process.
Moving forward a year or so, Audrey began to develop their sound. The embryo of their dark, suggestive pop took its first form in a run-down music house in the archipelago of Gothenburg.
By 2004 the band released an EP on the swedish indie label A Tenderversion Recording. It was also released in the UK by Stereo Test Kit Records and in Germany by Sinnbus Records. The Ep was well recieved and the following year they toured Europe for the first time, supporting José González, …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead and Junior Boys, to name a few.
The debut album ”Visible Forms” was co-produced by Paul Bothén (known for his film music and for producing music by Kristofer Åström and The Bear Quartet among others) and released in 2006 by A Tenderversion Recording, Stereo Test Kit and Sinnbus Records, with distribution throughout the whole Europe.
The band followed up great reviews by touring Sweden and Europe diligently. Then they settled to make material for a new album. A couple of days after christmas in 2007 the band and the producer Mathias Oldén isolated themselves in a cottage in the countryside of Skåne, in the south of Sweden. Two weeks later the second album ”The fierce and the longing” was done. In may 2008 it was released in Europe by A Tenderversion Recording and by Zankyo Records in Japan.
Describing Audrey’s music is no easy task. If the group has succeeded in finding a central theme, it’s a balance in the melodies – shimmering, beautiful moments of pop meet dark sadness.
The harmonies (everyone in the group shares vocal efforts) shift quickly between keys and moods. Straightforward, conventional narrative is replaced by abstract meanings which strengthen the melodies.
Audrey is composed of: Anna Tomlin, Emelie Molin, Rebecka Kristiansson and Victoria Skoglund.
